Devin overworked himself digging up the sod and dirt in our backyard to make a terraced garden. He even brought in compost and spent many hours turning it into the soil while I was at Time Out for Women with my friend Andrea.
We even got our plants in last week. I planted way too many tomato plants for my non-tomato loving husband, which was a good thing because even though Devin put in a rabbit- and toddler-proof fence, something snipped off most of my starts. We were looking out the window the night after this happened, bemoaning the loss of future salsa, when a big black bird flew off with a cucumber leaf! Do birds eat green plants?

congrats on the garden. I am doing the same thing right now- well after I finish this message. I went to a gardening class and they said that there is a powder you can put around your garden that will keep animals out- at least the ones that are on the ground. I think there is also a spray that you can put on your plants that will keep birds away. It is worth checking out. Oh- and you can never have too many tomato plants. I planted 4 just for myself! Love you guys
Birds eat everything, I am sure of it!! I saw this cool thing called a "Topsy Turvy" on late night TV and you can plant plant that will grow upside down!!! I have seen one with tomatoes and they just hung there!!! I am so excited to get a few and see what happens:) Great job on your garden, Robert just borrowed a tractor and tilled ours up today:) We are doing a smaller one this year, last year wasn't as successful as I would have like:)
Wow your garden rocks! What planting this year?
So awesome, it is so fun to watch a garden grow!
We planted pole beans, tomatoes, carrots, beets, Swiss chard, onions, cucumbers, zucchini, crookneck, eggplant, strawberries, bell peppers, and Anaheim peppers. Oh and some peppermint, oregano and thyme, and some other stuff in pots. We did not plant mushrooms, but they're growing anyway.
WOW!! Awesome Linds!! THat is just so fun! And your garden looks great!! Can't wait to see future pictures of all the amazing things that are growing :o)
wow, what fun! That is so awesome! Surely the mushrooms will do no harm and disappear after a bit? maybe they grew because of the compost? Maybe they're a good sign of all the good things in the compost! I really don't know of course! You know how certain mushrooms grow in certain spots--like under a cedar tree or on a rotting log etc etc. I just love hunting for mushrooms!
